The music department of the University of Massachusetts Lowell presents all academic performances to the public without charge. The participants in the premier performanceof the Ballet mécanique volunteered their time and efforts, and no funding was provided by the University of Massachusetts Lowell to compensate them, or to defray any expenses.

While much equipment and material was donated, there were still expenses that needed to be met: printing, publicity, mailing, music rental, legal fees, equipment that was not available from donors, etc. Total cash expenses for putting on the premiere concert came to approximately $4000.

The Edgar H. Lehrman Memorial Foundation for Ethics, Religion, Science, and the Arts, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization incorporated in the state of New York, has established a fund to help pay for the expenses incurred in that performance.
